Sivon awoke with Zoey in her arms. They had slept all night, wrapped round each other. She couldnât remember the last time she had slept so soundly. When she leaned back to take in Zoeyâs face, she noticed her complexion seemed healthier. Like her skin cells were regenerating. Was their healing energy together that powerful? Sivon wondered.
Zoeyâs eyes fluttered open and she smiled. âGood morning.â
Sivon only smiled back at her.
âI woke up wanting three things.â
âWhat?â
âYouâ¦â she grinned. âAnd coffeeâ¦and a bath. I feel grungy.â
âWell lucky for you I can provide all three.â
âEven the bath?â
âYes. Thereâs a little tiny hot springs down the path a ways. Itâs not big enough to swim in, but it serves very well as a bath. Iâve used it many times. And since itâs a hot spring, you wonât have to worry about freezing.â
âMmmmâ¦â Zoey relished the idea.
Sivon leaned to kiss Zoeyâs cheek and pushed herself to her feet to get firewood. The fire had grown cold and so had the air. She went to check on the horses and have a look outside. The sky was overcast, and the clouds seemed like they held snow. She wondered if that was going to be another obstacle today.
Feeling momentarily guilty for leaving the horses saddled last night, she gave them some attention. It was intentional, just in case they needed to leave again suddenly. She could not let anything happen to the Crows. Zoey. Sivon could only imagine what this must be. Her mother had told her stories of love, but in her 26 years of life here, she had not known it, and indeed had begun to believe it would never be part of her life. Now that potential existed. Zoey sensed it, and seemed enthusiastic about the possibilities, as well.
Horses brushed, Sivon ducked back into the cave, noticing that Zoey had gotten the fire going. A long-fingered hand touched the top of the other womanâs head as she walked by to grab the water pot, placing it near the flames for the coffee.
Zachary stirred, and shoved himself up against the cave wall, rubbing his face.
They both told him good morning.
âMorning,â he grunted to both of them, adjusting his sheepskin coat.
âI was just telling Zoey that thereâs a hot spring down the passage. If you want to freshen up. I have soap and shampoo and some towels back there in the supply area. I can take you there.â
He grinned. âI expect to see a valet and room service any second.â
âWell, Iâm afraid Iâm not quite that accommodating. But I have the things necessary to survive a week or two. I usually bring more supplies each time I come out here.â
âFirst things first. Call of nature.â He started toward the entrance and she stopped him.
âOh, you might be pleased to learn that thereâs a pit toilet through that passage to the left.â
He looked at her blankly. âYouâre kidding.â
She smiled. âItâs easy to find, just through there and turn left at the fork in the corridor.â
He shook his head and chuckled.
